We will talk more about how to interpret this information soon. The text at the bottom of the screen shows the keyboard shortcuts for performing various tasks in nano. Then run nano to create a file called README.txt: Let’s change our working directory to ~/shell_data/untrimmed_fastq using cd, As the name suggests, it’s a file that we or others should read to understand the information in that directory. We can create a file called README.txt that describes the data files in the directory or documents how the files in that directory were generated. This is good practice when working in bioinformatics.

We’re going to create a file to take notes about what we’ve been doing with the data files in ~/shell_data/untrimmed_fastq. To add text to files, we’re going to use a text editor called Nano. We’ve been able to do a lot of work with files that already exist, but what if we want to write our own files? We’re not going to type in a FASTA file, but we’ll see as we go through other tutorials, there are a lot of reasons we’ll want to write a file, or edit an existing file. Use chmod to make a script an executable program. Use the bash command to execute a shell script. I think that answers my own immediate question as well as provide some reference for others.Use the nano text editor to modify text files. I need to figure out a way to use the str2int command to do an expression. I have gotten this variable to work in some cases but I think the problem is that the variable is technically a string type so I can't do traditional loops. This input is sent to a default variable inputstr (not entirely sure what default is supposed to be doing)Ī dialog box will appear and prompt a response. To take in a user defined input you use the "inputbox" command, which follows the format: That, and the command list on the actual TeraTerm project site is where I have been troubleshooting and solving 90% of my issues. It is there that I found a nice thread called: TeraTerm Macro Language for dummies.

OK, I did some digging and found a moderately active forum: If anything right now I need to figure out how to take an inputbox input and store it to a variable. If anyone has any insights or experience with Tera term I would be very appreciative. input to take in number of track to test n tracks I have a very crude outline algorithm that I should describe it. Ideally the track will play for ~3 seconds and then increment up to the next track. I am trying to develop a script to play a set of tracks using a "play x" command, where x is the track index. Tera term site: < - Note: Site is in Japanese but I always have it auto translated. Tera Term uses a sort of Basic language called Tera Term Language (TTL) but I found it hard from the site to actually identify which commands I needed to use. I know Tera Term has a site that lists example macros as well as a command list but I guess what I need is someone with experience scripting in Tera Term. Recently I found out I can do some scripting in Tera Term so I have been doing research to help automate and make testing a little easier.

I am using a Tera Term over a serial port to do some testing on a board.
